The visa saga continues…

You could be forgiven for expecting this latest post to be written from my new residence in China. I’m afraid that couldn’t be further from the truth. I remain in Lancaster Rd, North London due to a complication with the work permit. A problem that would never have been a problem had the bureaucrats in China got their acts together and sent the work permits when they should have done. As long as I don’t have a work permit, I don’t have a visa. And as long as I don’t have a visa, there’s no way I’m going to China. My school is now in the process of acquiring a new work permit for me. The process will take at least 2 weeks – that’s what they say, but I suspect they don’t really know.

Well, at least I get to enjoy the last of the great British summer… But I am still around to follow Arsenal’s encouraging start to their season…

OK, so things haven’t quite gone to plan but, ever the optimist, I continue to look forward to the upcoming year in China with excitement and expectation. This problem with the visa is certainly annoying, but will seem like a mere blip in my China experience a year from now.

In the mean time I intend to work on my Mandarin, to read up on the country I still know virtually nothing about, and to do yet another round of farewells hoping (in the nicest way possible) that they will be the last for a long while!
